When the site builds, Astro asks WordPress for the list of posts and a copy of each one. The body arrives as ready made HTML in the content field.

The build step

Astro loops over every post, generates a route, and drops the HTML straight into the page. Because the work happens at build time, the live site has no database to query.

Why it feels fast

There is no server render on each request and no plugin chain to run. The visitor downloads a file that was already finished.
